It’s January. Who’s got money? Certainly not me. So, if you’re in the market for a new phone but don’t fancy spending over £40 per month just for a newer version of what you already have, try the new Honor 10 Lite. It’s just been announced and it comes with a Huawei Kirin 710 octa-core CPU plus 3GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage and a microSD slot for more.
That CPU has four 2.2 GHz and four 1.7 GHz cores, so the experience is going to be pretty nippy. Not only that, but it’s going to look good too – they’ve added the dewdrop fullview screen and the….
..wait a minute…
The Huawei P Smart 2019 is £219. It has a dewdrop notch 6.21″ 2340 x 1080 pixel (19.5:9) display, the Kirin 710 (four 2.2 GHz and four 1.7 GHz) CPU, 3GB of RAM, 64GB of on-board storage and a microSD slot. There’s also WiFi, NFC, GPS, Bluetooth, a fingerprint reader, a 3400mAh battery, a 3.5mm audio port and a dual camera setup. On the back is a 13 megaxpixel shooter and 2 megapixel depth sensor. Up from is an 8 megapixel f/1.8 wide-aperture lens.
But hey, we’re here to talk about the all-new Honor 10 Lite. Different phone. Right? Right?? Well… no. Here’s the Honor 10 Lite..
The Honor 10 Lite is £199, so £20 cheaper. It has the same dewdrop notch 6.21″ 2340 x 1080 pixel (19.5:9) display, the same Kirin 710 processor, the same 3GB of RAM and the same 64GB of on-board storage plus the microSD slot. Heck, I just said all this. There’s also WiFi, NFC, GPS, Bluetooth, a fingerprint reader, a 3400mAh battery, a 3.5mm audio port and a dual camera setup. On the back is a 13 megaxpixel shooter and 2 megapixel depth sensor.
WAIT A MINUTE THOUGH!
Because there is a slight difference. Yes, instead of the 8 megapixel f/1.8 wide-aperture selfie camera up front, here Honor have added a 24-megapixel f/2.0 shooter.
The Honor 10 Lite still gets the AI bits, so you get acne removal, teeth whitening, eye enlargement and some funky lighting effects too. You also get “AIS Super Night Shoot” which – if you hold the phone for 6 seconds – creates a professional night photographic.
It runs Android 9 and has the Honor / Huawei EMUI 9 interface.
Huawei and Honor have done this before, producing phones which are almost the same, but this is the first time I’ve seen almost identical phones being sold. The only difference is the front camera and a £20 note – literally.
Honor have splashed their 8-layer finish with that vibrant gradient colour. It’s available in three colours – Sky Blue, Sapphire Blue and Midnight Black. More shots below..
