Honor have today launched their now familiar “well priced but still very, very good” handset in the shape of the Honor 7X. However, if you want to spend £449.99 and get some artificial intelligence, have a look at this – the new Honor View 10. It doesn’t look to be arriving on a UK network as yet, but they will be selling it on store.hihonor.com, Amazon and Very.co.uk.
Inside, and on top of a blazingly-quick Kirin 970 SoC (4x Cortex-A73 @ 2.4GHz and 4x Cortex A53 @ 1.8GHz) plus a clever Neural Network Processing Unit which can make your photos better by recognising different scenes and optimizing the phone to suit how you use it. Almost a phone that will be able to predict what you want to do. There’s 6 GB RAM and 128 GB of storage with a microSD slot for more.
Honor tell us…
The SoC interacts with cloud: By processing big data in the cloud, cloud-based AI systems continuously update smartphones with new intelligence. Meanwhile, the Kirin 970 AI system gets to know the user better every day and provides personal services, intelligence and experience. The heterogeneous computing architecture delivers up to 25 times faster performance and 50 times increase in efficiency when performing AI tasks, i.e. over 2,000 images can be processed per minute. The Kirin 970 also supports LTE Cat. 18 DL and Cat. 13 UL connections and achieves a peak download speed of 1.2 Gbps, supporting the highest possible download speed on any carrier networks worldwide.
The screen is a Full HD 18:9 5.93″ unit similar to the 7X, but on the back you’re getting an uprated dual-lens camera arrangement which has a 10x zoom, with a 16 megapixel (colour) and 20 megapixel (monochrome) working together to deliver an F/1.8 wide aperture and 2-in-1 PDAF automatic focus. The artificial intelligence from the CPU will deliver scene and object recognition to adjust the colour, contrast, brightness and exposure. In theory it’ll make your photos look better than ever. I’m sure I’ll still somehow stick my finger over the lens. 🙂 There’s a 13 megapixel front shooter too.
The 3750 mAh battery has “Honor SuperCharge” to boost your battery power quickly. Reps here tell us it’ll get to 50% in just 30 minutes and it’ll still continue to operate at a low temperature and voltage. You’ll also have the new EMUI 8.0, which is based on Android 8.0, as a GUI.
Other features include Bluetooth 4.2, a fingerprint sensor and a USB type C charger. We also assume it’ll have NFC but we’re confirming.
