For less than 24 hours, the new shiny Google Assistant was available on non-Pixel handsets running Android Nougat or 7.0 in old money. If you don’t know what the new Google Assistant is, well it is the new version of the service we have got used to on Android handset but it was exclusive for the Pixel range in the US.
Google released an update to Nougat on 13th February which included an alpha version of the new AI assistant but noticeably on devices like Nexus 6P but there was also reported the assistant would work on the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 if you sideloaded it on.
Reports from 9to5Google.com and Android Police say the alpha application was pretty buggy, so it was unsurprising that Google recalled it immediately.
